Distance Education Standards Update

The ARELLO Education Certification Committee reviewed the Standards for any necessary updates to ensure IDECC is providing the highest quality certification for distance education. We are providing a public comment period for our stakeholders and encourage any feedback you may have. ARELLO appoints new CEO

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the selection of Susan Gilpin, JD, as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials. After an extensive search, Susan was chosen for her proven leadership success with nonprofits and her vast experience in business.  We believe she is a perfect fit for ARELLO and its programs and services.

Susan has worked in the nonprofit sector for the past 15 years.  After graduating from law school and passing the Illinois Bar exam she began work in the private sector as a Senior Tax Analyst in the Tax Department of The Northern Trust Company.  At the time that she left The Northern Trust Company, 13 years later, she was a Vice President managing client servicing staff for more than 100 public pension plans.

Susan is the former Executive Director of Cornerstone Foundation for the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, where she had management responsibility for its endowment. Prior to this role, Susan was the President of C200 and Executive Director of C200 Foundation, a membership organization for pre-eminent international women business leaders. Her career demonstrates a results oriented executive with a solid record of achievement.

In addition to her work experience, she has served on volunteer boards affiliated with her community and church.  Her most notable board experience was on the governing board of Eastern Illinois University (EIU), a state university of 11,000 full-time students.  She had the distinction of being selected by her peers to be the first woman to serve as chairperson of the EIU Board. 

We feel very fortunate to have Susan as ARELLO’s new leader. I would like to give sincere thanks to the Search Committee members for all their efforts and time spent seeking out Susan. Thank you to Gene Bentley, Grace Berger, Karen Crowson, Teresa Hoffman, Gary Isom, Jeanne Jackson-Heim, Richard Strader, and Fran Whitley.

Thank you for your membership in ARELLO and we look forward to having you meet Susan in person at our Mid Year Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. Susan’s first day with ARELLO will be February 4, 2013.

What's New in International Real Estate Regulation and Education

Call for ARELLO Foundation Trustee Nominations

There are two impending vacancies on the ARELLO Foundation Board of Trustees.

Foundation ByLaws state:  "The governing body of the ARELLO Foundation shall be the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees shall have supervision, control, and direction of the affairs of ARELLO Foundation; shall actively prosecute ARELLO Foundation's objectives; and shall supervise Disbursement of ARELLO Foundation's funds."

The Foundation ByLaws further state:  "The Board of Trustees shall consist of seven (7) Trustees, to include the ARELLO Chief Executive Officer and six (6) Trustees appointed by the ARELLO Board of Directors....... Trustees (with the exception of the ARELLO CEO) shall hold office for a period of three (3) years, or until a successor is duly elected and qualified. Trustees shall be appointed so that no more than one-third (1/3) of the Board of Trustees Expires in a given year."  Terms for these appointments expire on December 31, 2016.

So that the Nominating Committee may submit nominees to the ARELLO Board of Directors at their January, 2014 meeting,  interested persons  should submit their name and qualifications or the name and qualifications of someone they wish to nominate no later than November 30, 2013 to: or

Job Opening: Director of Business and Member Services

ARELLO is seeking a new staff member for the position of Director of Business and Member Services.

The Director of Business and Member Services will be responsible for marketing and relationship support for products and services provided to ARELLO members and non-member customers. A college degree and 7 years of marketing, client servicing and/or association program management are required. Must possess intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar products used in creating marketing and communication pieces.

ARELLO Digest Survey Now Open

The ARELLO Digest of Real Estate License Law & Current Issues is the association’s signature publication.  It's the only one of its kind in existence. This publication serves as a primary information resource for regulators and a number of other stakeholders in the global real estate industry.

If you are designated as a Digest survey completer for your organization, please take the time to review the contents of the Static Survey and complete the Annual Survey on behalf of your jurisdiction.  After you login to the Members Only area you'll see the link to the Digest Survey in the left-hand menu.  If you don't see the Digest Survey link and would like to complete the survey for your jurisdiction, please have your agency administrator contact us at and request that we add you as a survey completer.

Your participation is vital to the overall quality of the Digest.  For your participation, you will receive a free copy of the Digest upon its completion next year.  We thank you for your participation!
